Introducing the LUMINA Photography Retreat, a transformative experience designed to illuminate what sets you apart as an artist. "Lumina," meaning "the light," reflects our mission to reveal your unique artistic vision. After years of observing the burnout that follows a long wedding season, I wanted to create a space for photographers to unwind, recharge, and invest in themselves during the off-season. These retreats offer a perfect balance of structured educational sessions, free time, styled shoots for creative play, and community connection. A HIDEAWAY BETWEEN HEAVEN AND EARTH
Nestled between the fauna and flora of the Hemel en Aarde valley lies Thuúla Heaven Havens, our serene home for the next three days. The main house accommodates eight guests, with a smaller dwelling nearby for two more.
Quietly immersed in nature and exuding style and tranquility, Thuula Havens is surrounded by rolling hills that turn golden in November—making it the perfect time for our retreat. This idyllic setting offers a peaceful environment to quiet your mind and sets the scene for the magical imagery that you will create during your time at Lumina.

I’ve always had a love for education, but the success of LUMINA thus far has has sparked in me a newfound passion for fostering collective growth and inspiration among fellow creatives.
Seeing photographers from across South Africa come together to reignite their passion for their craft has been both humbling and heartwarming and I cannot wait to see what the next retreat will mean for each individual, both on a personal and professional level.

LAST YEAR’S RETREAT
Our very first retreat took place at the awe-inspiring White Sands villa in Yzerfontein, where ten photographers gathered for an unforgettable experience.
While our days were filled with educational sessions and content creation, the true highlights were the moments spent enjoying each other's company—morning coffees on the porch, heart-to-heart conversations over pasta and wine, and laughter that brought us to tears.
The retreat's true magic lay in recharging our batteries and reconnecting with ourselves and each other, reminding us that the most profound learning often comes from shared connections and simple moments. This retreat was about more than photography; it was about community, personal growth, and finding joy together.
The LUMINA retreat surpassed all my expectations. While my goal was to learn and grow, it also felt like a rejuvenating mini holiday, leaving me recharged and inspired. Charné guided us to connect with our purpose on a deeper level and her dedication made it truly unforgettable. Attending the LUMINA retreat was a highlight of 2023 for me and I wholeheartedly recommend joining the next one.
